We do not want any other forces in Sinjar, say local residents

Reactions continue to mount against the agreement signed between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to ensure their control of Sinjar.

Citizens of Sinjar protested the agreement and stated that the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ) defended the area, and therefore no more defence is needed. They will not allow their self-defence and self-governance to be removed, they said.

Salih Reşo, a resident of Sinjar, said, “We have no problem with the return of migrants and their participation in the reconstruction of Sinjar. We do not want the forces, who left us and ran away, to return here”.

Another resident, Sileman Xelef, said “We want neither the KDP’s Asayish…
nor the Iraqi military. There is stability and peace in our region. We have our defence forces and Asayish as well. We can solve problems by ourselves. We educate people who cause problems. When we have significant problems, we have YBŞ and YŞJ forces. Our forces are enough for us, we do not want any others”.

Meanwhile, the human shield protest launched by Sinjar youth ended after three days of demonstrations in the Amud region of Sinjar. Yazidi youth began the protest on 26 November against the attacks of the Turkish state and the KDP.
