Turkey’s military operations continue in Iraqi Kurdistan

Turkey’s military operations continue in Iraqi Kurdistan. Turkish fighter jets bombed localities in the town of Derkarê in Zakho early on Tuesday morning, according to Roj News. The same areas were targeted again in the evening. Reports from the ground stated that the attacks started fires in the agricultural lands of the local people and houses were also damaged.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has also been trying to establish new bases in the region and ongoing tensions between the Kurdistan Worker’s Party(PKK) and the KDP are increasing.

KDP forces reportedly contacted the headmen of the villages in the Nehlê Plain and asked for the phone numbers of all the shepherds in the region. Later, it was revealed that KDP forces had contacted the shepherds asking them to become spies, and had asked them to inform them about PKK guerrilla positions they could identify when they took their animals to graze.

KDP forces are trying to detect guerrilla positions in the same area and KDP’s military forces also reportedly sent reinforcements to the check-points in the Sorciyan area of Dinartê and tried to establish new bases there. Ten Humvee armoured vehicles and heavy weapons were despatched to these points.
