Turkey to give five billion dollars to Iraq

After a cabinet meeting in Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi made a statement regarding his recent visit to Turkey.

“Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a close friend of mine”, said the Iraqi Prime Minister, adding, “Turkey has welcomed us in a beautiful ceremony and Turkey is ready to support the Iraqi government with five billion US dollars, as pledged at the conference in Kuwait”.

As reported by MedyaNews on 21 December, Iraqi political analyst Salar Mehmud claimed that Iraqi Kurdistan’s economy is controlled by Turkey.

Mehmud also said that instead of being in a coalition with Turkey, al-Kadhimi should demand Turkish troops leave the Kurdistan region and Iraq. Amid Turkey’s economic crisis, the support that Turkey will be able to provide for the Iraqi government has been a key question for experts.
