Thousands march for freedom of Öcalan in Syria

On 11 December thousands marched in the Aleppo province of Syria to protest the isolation of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is imprisoned in the İmralı F-type High Security Prison in Turkey. Appeals to resist and fight for the freedom of people in the Middle East, women and Öcalan were made during the protest.

According to ANHA’s report, residents of Sheikh Maqsood and Eşrefiye protested as part of the “End Isolation, Fascism and Occupation, It is time to achieve freedom” campaign. The march was held by the Kurdish for Star Congress (Kongreya Star) and people gathered in front of the conference hall in western Sheikh Maqsood.

The Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) co-chair Suad Hesen said, “İmralı prison holds the key to a solution in the Middle East. People from the Middle East and especially women should protest for the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan”.

Following the speech, the crowd chanted slogans.
