The history of YPG and the PYD to be taught in classes in France

A history book being used in French high schools includes a section describing the history of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD).

According to Yeni Özgür Politika, an auxiliary textbook prepared for history lessons in the last year of high school in France has included a section about the Kurdish forces struggling in the Middle East.

The textbook, used as supplementary educational material, devotes two full pages to the ideology and the history of the PYD and the YPG as well. The book is published by Berlin Publishing House.

The history book includes a section entitled “The Nation Without a Country: Kurds” that includes the line: “The Kurds are the biggest nation on earth who do not have a country”.

The publication also includes information regarding the history of the PYD – which fights for the rights of the Kurds in Middle East – and a map of Kurdistan, YPG banners and photographs of armed YPG forces which have fought against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) during the war in Syria.

The textbook also reproduces a Le Monde newspaper article entitled “The End of Syrian Kurdistan” (which was published on 21 September 2019).
