Raids against activists and HDP members in İstanbul

Police raided houses of numerous activists and People’s Democratic Party (HDP) members in 15 districts of Istanbul, Turkey.

Within the scope of an operation that was initiated late at night, 28 addresses were raided in Istanbul. Those detained included activists, politicians and journalists. The grounds for the detentions remains unknown.

People who have been detained reportedly include the Deputy Mayor of Şişli, Cihan Yavuz; the People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) Council of Peoples and Beliefs member Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar; the journalist Davut Uçar and Kesire Önel, a member of the Anatolia Association for Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives (ANYAKAY-DER); Alaattin Altıntaş; HDP Üsküdar district former Co-Chair Erşan Ongulu; Mehmet Montenegro, Muhsin Demir, Marmara Prisoner and Convict Families Association (MATUHAYDER) Co-Chair Hüsnü Taş as well as Muhlis Bozdemir, Nazım Adıgüzel, Yusuf Çelik and Emine Kaya.
