In north-east and west Syria, people have increasingly been protesting against the Turkish army, demanding that it withdraws from these areas.

Turkish soldiers attempted to stop one such protest in Maaret El Numan. Residents continue to live under difficult conditions against the criminal activities of the Turkish armed forces who continue to carry out massacres, kidnap civilians, arbitrarily detain and rape people. Allied paramilitary groups also regularly commit human rights violations throughout the region, especially in Afrin and Bab Jarablus.

Protests against these violations of human rights grow day by day in Idlib.

Residents from the village of Serman, in the Maaret El Numan region in the south of Idlib, for example, recently staged protests demanding that the Turkish army leave the region. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that the demonstrators who were marching to Serman point were attacked by soldiers and dispersed using tear gas.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry has announced that these protests are viewed as an attack upon its forces.
