The Sinjar agreement was signed between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi government on 9 October 2020. Since then, there has been rising criticism of the agreement. The Yazidi community living in Sinjar has repeatedly voiced its concern over the agreement alongside the Sinjar Democratic Autonomous Assembly (MXDŞ).

MXDŞ very recently stated that Sinjar faces great danger: it appealed to the Kurdish and world public to heed its concerns.

Noting that the Yazidis reacted negatively to the agreement signed between the Baghdad and Erbil administrations, and that a series of initiatives were undertaken to protest against and cancel the agreement, MXDŞ announced on 24 November that: “All attempts we made through dialogue have been inconclusive, and it seems that the parties insist on the implementation of the agreement. We want to state that we will use our right of self-defense only if there is an attack on our people”.

Following the MXŞD appeal, there have been increased protests over the agreement in Sinjar and Europe. Yazidi youth launched a human shield action on 26 November against the attacks of the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Protest actions by the Patriotic Yazidi Youth and Union of Young Yazidi Women (YCJÊ) continue despite the rainy and cold weather in the Amud region of Sinjar in Iraqi Kurdistan.

After issuing their statement of protest against the agreement, they continued their action and lit a fire and danced the halay and sang songs.

Protests also took place in several cities in Europe. Youth organisations also protested against the Sinjar agreement. Kurdish activists have protested in Paris, Bordeaux, Rennes, Copenhagen and Brussels.
