People of Sinjar resist attempts to seize their security forces

Inhabitants of Sinjar are resisting the Baghdad administration’s attempts to take over the region’s Asayish (public security).

Following the agreement on Sinjar between the Iraq central government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, suppression and attacks on civilians have increased in the region. Feeling that the agreement ignores their interests, citizens are protesting in front of the Asayish points located in the region. People from Borik and Duhola have also participated in the actions.

On 3 December, people from the Guhbel and Zorava villages also participated in the resistance, under the slogan “We are all Asayish, we are all fighters in the Sinjar Defence Units (YBŞ)-Sinjar Women’s Defense Units‎ (YŞJ)”.

Resistance comes in the form of songs and halay dance. Stating that people have been resisting for two months, Sinjar Women’s Assembly member Hemşê Reşo said, “We see the danger to best interests and security”.

In the meantime, Iraqi officals have stepped back and decided not to remove the Asayish due to the reactions.
