Men murdered 30 women in a month in Turkey, femicide report reveals

At least 30 women were murdered by men in November, according to a Jinnews report on femicides in Turkey. The report arrived at this figure after having examined media coverage of femicides during November.

According to the report, the highest number of femicides in November took place in
İzmir. While 10 women lost their lives suspiciously, 11 women were subjected to femicidal attempts.

Two children were killed and at least six women were reportedly subjected to harassment and rape in November. Three children died suspiciously and seven children were subjected to violence and rape.

The report also provided ‘self-defence’ statistics. Women in Turkey have reportedly continued to use their right of self-defense to protect themselves. A woman named ‘Zehra Y’ was subjected to violence by a man named ‘İsmail I’ and was injured by bullet wound. The woman is reported to have killed ‘İsmail I’ in self-defense.

The report further revealed that, in November, femicides were committed by male officers in uniform. Five women were killed either by a specialist sergeant, a non-commissioned officer or a village guard.
