The Kurdish Research Association (Komeleya Lêkolînên Kurdî) has achieved a first by launching language courses in the Hewramî and Kelhurî dialects of Kurdish language. Eyüp Subaşı, co-chair of the association, said that they aimed to prevent assimilation with the courses.

According to the Mesopotamia Agency’s (MA) report, the Kurdish Research Association will begin courses teaching the Soranî, Hewramî and Kelhurî dialects of the Kurdish language. The lectures will be held on the Zoom video application from 7 December and will continue for three months.

Subaşı said that until now there were no courses in these dialects. They will open one classroom each for Soranî and Kelhurî, and two classroms for Hewramî. A move against assimilation

Subaşı said they aim to allow Kurdish people to communicate and know each other. “Besides, there is an attempt to make these dialects disappear. We aim to prevent that danger with these courses”. Subaşi also said, “We do not know each other well. We launched these courses to learn about each other. In addition, sufficient studies regarding these languages have not been carried out. Maybe we can pave the way for these studies”.

The time schedule for the courses, which will begin on 7 December, is as follows:

Soranî: 20:00-22:00 on Monday

Kelhurî: 20:00-22:00 on Thursday
