Hunger strikes in Turkey reach their 32nd day

The hunger strikes launched by political prisoners in Turkey to protest against the prison isolation conditions of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan as well as the violations of rights that are taking place inside prisons in the country has reached its 32th day. The seventh group of prisoners have begun their hunger strikes.

People outside the prisons have continued to express their support for the hunger strikers and solidarity actions have been taking place in Europe and Turkey.

Human rights organisations and lawyers who have spoken to the prisoners and families of the prisoners have also stated that the demands of the prisoners should be met urgently.

Slogans – “Long live the strikers in the prisons” – have been written on many walls in the Sur district of Diyarbakır (Amed) in Turkey.

Mesopotamia News Agency has also reported that the prisoners who are on hunger strike in Tarsus Prison have stated that the prison administration has not provided them with necessary materials such as salt, sugar and lemons.
