Human Rights organisations make statement despite police blockade in Turkey

The Human Rights Association (İHD) and the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) made a press statement for human rights week surrounded by police in front of the Human Rights Association’s İstanbul Branch building.

İHD İstanbul branch president Gülseren Yoleri speaking on behalf of the organisations drew attention to the violations of human rights in Turkey

“The government is using the coronavirus pandemic measures to impose it’s own will” she said.

22 non-governmental organisations announced their 2020 evaluation report about Turkey.

The report included human rights violations that took place over the past year and states that rights of expression, organisation and assembly were blocked under the excuse of Covid-19 pandemic measures.

Titles of the report included, Pressure on Civil Society, Saturday Mothers on Trial, Impunity Policies Continue, Doctors are Targeted, Pressure on Bar Associations and Lawyers, Unions are Blocked, Women and LGBTI + Struggle and Environmental Rights Defenders.
