HDP co-chair Sancar calls upon the opposition to make a ‘peace constitution’

Mithat Sancar, the Peoples’s Democratic Party’s (HDP’s) co-chair, attended a public meeting in the Bodrum district of Muğla, a city in Turkey.

The meeting was held to discuss the third phase of the “Democratic Struggle Programme”.

Sancar stated that the aim of democracy was peace and freedom. He added that the ‘peace demand’ was not a demand of only the HDP. It will also mean an end to despotic rule in Turkey.

He noted that the task of peace cannot be left only to the HDP. Everyone has to take responsibility for it. If peace cannot be achieved, then democracy cannot be acheived either.

The solution to the Kurdish problem is not ‘separate’ from the problem of democracy, he pointed out.

Sancar called upon the opposition to make a peace constitution, noting that this could be acheived by ending the isolation conditions imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned Kurdish leader based on İmralı Island, Turkey.

If these obstacles are eliminated, he stated that Öcalan can play his role to implement the peace.

He also demanded equality, related to freedom for ethnic and religious communities.
