According to ANF news, at least eleven villagers were killed in two separate attacks in north-eastern Nigeria’s Borno state, where Boko Haram is mostly active. Boko Haram is reportedly suspected of the crimes.

The civilians were targeted in two separate villages close to the capital, Maiduguri.

Since 2011, Boko Haram, one of the largest Islamist militant groups in Africa, has conducted terrorist attacks on religious and political groups, local police and the military, as well as civilians.

The conflict between the state and Boko Haram has been essentially contained in the Muslim north, particularly in Borno state. However, millions of people have been displaced by the conflict in the region.

After a peak in Boko Haram related violence in 2014 and 2015, more than one hundred students were kidnapped by a faction of Boko Haram, known as Islamic State West Africa, in 2018.
