ECHR accepts Armenia’s application to impose interim measures on Azerbaijan

Clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces on the Nagorno-Karabakh border continue despite global calls for a ceasefire.

A territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan has led to the recent clashes. The United Nations Security Council has called for an immediate end to the clashes over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) accepted Armenia’s application on Monday to impose interim measures on Azerbaijan regarding the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh border.

The ECHR announced that this decision was taken on the grounds that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh poses serious risks to the violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. The ECHR called for a halt to the violence as soon as possible.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Turkey’s “pro-war messages” with regard to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh encouraged Azerbaijan to reconquer the region. Macron referred to Turkey’s statements as ‘reckless-and-dangerous’.
