Coalition against ISIS will not pull troops from northeastern Syria

A press conference set up between the Global Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Rimelan (northeastern Syria) to discuss the latest combat strategies against the Islamic State (ISIS) was held on Tuesday.

The Deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), Kevin Copsey, and the spokesman of OIR, Colonel Wayne Marotto, arrived at the coalition base in Rimelan to answer questions from journalists.

Copsey stated during the conference that their mission in northeastern Syria and Iraq is not yet finished, but that with the help of the SDF and the Peshmerga, as well as the Iraqi security forces, they were able to dismantle the attempted caliphate. Wayne Marotto stressed that they are committed to staying in these areas to provide support to the SDF and Iraqi forces, and they are not going to pull the troops out of the area.

The SDF spokesman, Kino Gabriel, also confirmed the continued alliance between the OIR and the SDF to defeat ISIS.

Questions relating to the Syrian government or Iranian and Turkish issues were not answered in the conference.

The international coalition against ISIS was formed in July 2014 and contains 83 nations who share a joint commitment to confront ISIS around the world and destroy their economic infrastructure.
