Belgian delegation meets with Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria

Jeen Peres – Syria

A Belgian delegation visited officials of the Autonomous Administration in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, on Friday, to discuss issues related to the region, including the problem of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members who were detained.

The delegation arrived at the Autonomous Administration’s Department of Foreign Relations and were received by the co-chair of the foreign relations commission, Dr Abdulkarim Omar.

They discussed with Omar the Turkish attacks not only in the region, but in other countries, as well as ISIS detainees and how they can resolve these problems together.

The Head of the SDC’s Executive Council, Ilham Ahmed, said there were no political relations between the two parties, only military relations.

Regarding the Syrian government issue, Ahmed said, “Governmental organisations support us only with the approval of the Syrian government, and the government doesn’t give the approval for this support because they sell aid to the shops. That’s why we don’t get support from governmental organisations”.

She also mentioned that the Syrian ISIS detainees whose hands were “clean” were granted a general amnesty, and their documents were cleaned up.

Both sides hope to find a solution for the crisis, rehabilitee centers for ISIS kids, prosecution international ISIS prisoners .

The Belgian delegation includes the parliamentarians George Dalman and Koen Metsu, Philippe Vansteenkiste and Rudi Melek from the International Association of Victims of Terrorism, and Heidi De Pauw from Child Focus, which works to support missing and kidnapped children.
