Al- Nabi Houri Castle is being converted to a mosque in Afrin

Afrin Area Historical Monuments Committee Co-Chair, Esmehan Ehmed stated that, Turkey is converting the Al- Nabi Houri castle into a mosque in Afrin, as reported by Hawar News.

The images and photographs show that a mosque is being built in the Shera district of Afrin where the castle is located.

“They are destroying the historical and cultural heritage of Afrin” says Esmehan Ehmed .

The area, where the Al- Nabi Houri Castle is located, is known as the city of Cyrrhus according to historical records. The history of Al- Nabi Houri Castle goes back to 312 BC. The castle is located approximately 454 km east of Afrin city centre. Since the invasion of Afrin by Turkey and its mercenaries, historical artifacts have been continuously destroyed, stolen and smuggled.

“The organisations working for the protection of historical monuments and the international community should take responsibility and put an end to these attacks,” says Esmehan Ehmed.

Esmehan Ehmed stated that approximately 26 historical sites were destroyed in Afrin this year alone and called on the international community to condem these crimes committed by the Turkish state and its gangs and to send a delegation to the region to gather evidence for an indictment against the Turkish state.
