Hong Kong: 290 arrests as people protest over ‘postponed’ elections

Elections for Hong Kong’s Legislature were controversially postponed for a year in Hong Kong. Originally scheduled to have taken place on Sunday, authorities announced that the delay was happening due to the pandemic. Critics, however, claimed that the government was scared of the election results, had they taken place on 6 September. Demonstrators took to the streets and 290 were arrested. For more than seven months, protests have taken place in Hong Kong demanding democracy and autonomy.
