Shahba residents condemn Turkey’s attacks

As Russia and the Syrian regime continue to keep silent on Turkey’s attacks on North East Syria, Turkmenian residents of the area criticised Russia’s attitude and called for international public support.

Nuri Adnan, a resident Karagöz village in Shahba, said that Turkey’s attacks had been ongoing since 2012. Adnan said that Turkmenians, Arabs and Kurds were united, adding, “However, they do not like it. They entered with heavy artillery”. Adnan said that Turkey occupied the region to fulfill its neo-Ottoman ambitions:”Turkey’s war is an old one. It aims to launch the Ottoman era once again”.

“Afrin was a beautiful place”, said Adnan. “It was a beautiful mosaic which also included Arab people. There were not only Kurds in Afrin. They expelled more than 80% of Kurds from Afrin. They brought Arabic people to those places”.

Condemning Turkey’s attacks on Ain Issa, Adnan reacted against the silence of Russia. “However, I find guilty the ones who supported Turkey. Why do Russians close their eyes? The regime is there, and Russia has closed its eyes”.

Another resident of Shahba asked “Where do these people go?” and said that the international community should stand against the war.

Attacks launched on 18 December

The assaults began on 18 December when Turkish-backed armed groups attacked the village of Mişêrifê in northeastern Syria. According to local information, the violent clashes are still ongoing.

The Turkish state and its affiliated armed groups also attacked the Toxar village in the northeast of Manbij. The attack, which started in the evening, was defended by Manbij Military Council fighters, and the attacks continued into the morning.

In the regions of Tell Tamer and Zirgan, close to the battlefront, the mobility of the Turkish-backed groups had increased. While the attacks on the villages of Ain Issa continued, Turkish-backed groups mobilised near the Hesekê Canton.
