IRGC commander killed by drone strike at Iraq-Syria border

Muslim Shahdan, a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was killed together with his three bodyguards when their vehicle was hit by an air strike after crossing the border from Iraq to Syria, according to reports.

Reuters reported that an air strike killed a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards at the Iraq-Syria border between Saturday and Sunday. Local military and militia sources confirmed the account, although Reuters was unable to verify independently that an Iranian commander had been killed.

Later it was revealed that Muslim Shahdan was killed in a drone strike along the Iraqi-Syrian border on Monday night, reports Al-Arabiya News. Iraqi security sources told Al-Arabiya that a drone killed the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Commander, in a targeted strike on his vehicle. According to the information obtained from two Iraqi security officials, Shahdan’s car was carrying weapons across the Iraqi border and was hit after it had entered Syrian territory.
