Fatma Sevmiş sent to prison after falling ill and fainting

Fatma Sevmiş was detained during home raids in Hakkari on 14 October. She was arrested on the allegation of “being a member of an organisation” and sentenced to prison. Following the verdict, Sevmiş’s fell ill and she was taken to Hakkari State Hospital. After the treatment, she was sent to Van Prison.

It was reported that Sevmiş was quarantined for 14 days in prison within the scope of coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak precautions.

What happened?

Eighteen citizens, five of them disabled, were detained in home raids in the centre of Hakkari in the Çukurca district on 14 October. They were sent to the prosecutor three days later.

The Prosecutor’s Office referred 16 people to the Criminal Court of Peace with the condition of judicial control, including 76-year-old İsmail Önal and 50-year-old Fatma Sevmiş, with a request for arrest.

The court decided to arrest Önal and Sevmiş on the allegation of “helping the organisation”, and released everyone else.
